The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
The ICC’s Chief Prosecutor, Karim Ahmad Khan, requested the warrants in May 2024. However, the process was delayed because the issuance was believed to complicate negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages. Additionally, the United States sided with Israel and threatened to impose sanctions on the organization.
